Shows this week!

Hey everyone!

I have finally managed to get back in the groove after my trip to Vegas and I am so excited for the upcoming events this week!

Tomorrow is my senior exhibition at the Sturgis Library aka the less glorified name for it, the basement of the KSU library... haha. It is a group show with many other awesome artists in my graduating class! For those of you who don't know I will be receiving my PHD in painting. Just kidding, just a 7 year BFA.

THEN..........

Saturday, November 5th is the annual Day of the Dead show at Young Blood Gallery. I will be working but non the less it is going to be a lot of fun. So be sure to wear a costume and show up and check out all the awesome coffins! I got a sneak peak of them and they are all really amazing this year!!! The opening is from 7-10pm.
Sneak Peak!

I also just got word that I got some works accepted into the Wholly Georgia show at Mint Gallery November 11th! I am super excited because I haven gotten to shown my new body of work that I have been working on since summer and they are finally getting exposed. :) Ill have more details on this later ;)

Thank god this month is almost over!

Today I am turning in all my paintings for my senior show. I am so glad because that's one more weight off my shoulders and I am one step closer to this insane month to be over!

Last Sunday I curated the Mask group show at Radial Cafe with the help of my partner Jackson Henry. We did a pretty good job I think. Everything looks great hung up on the walls. It was a very cohesive group of works.

yay!

Today is the last day for submissions for the Mask show I am curating this Sunday at Radial Cafe in Atlanta. Contact me if you have any questions @ Daymelton@gmail.com

I need to finish my coffin next week for Young Blood Gallery's Day of the Dead show AND tweek my paintings for my senior show.
Yesterday I got a new job at this sports bar in Buckhead, not exactly my scene at all, but its going to be good money. Temporary until I can get some money saved up and find a better full time job after December. Desperate times call for desperate measures. The only good thing is I will have most of my days  off because the shifts all start at 5:00 pm. And I will only have to work 3-4 nights a week to make twice as much as I do now working 30 hours a week. Plus, no taxes out of tips, I am tired of giving the government half my paychecks. This job will give me more time to focus on my own art. :)

Toodles.

A Brock Wedding in Vegas!

Congratulations to my new favorite married pair, the Brocks!!
Justin Brock and Kaley Baker were married at the Little White Chaple on Saturday, October 15th at approximately 7:00pm. All the boys were crying and all the girls were smiling. I wish them all the love in the world and I think they will make each other very happy for years and years to come! I just want to thank you for carefully selecting me as one of your bridesmaids, I know you had a few other choices....   Love you guys!!

I am still catching up on sleep from Las Vegas. From Thursday to Sunday I got 12 hours of sleep total. I have been sleeping for the past 2 days and I am having a harder time then I thought getting back into the swing of things. Sleep is the only thing I can think of right now. Vegas one a blast. And I won $160 playing black jack! Woohoo!

Can I just....

Hey ya'll,
Well, I just want to say Murphy's Law can suck it. This month has managed to be one big giant ball of stress. But after this month I will have a little more time to breath. November 1, 2011 is my "Senior Exhibition"- Group show @The Sturgis Gallery, Kennesaw State Universtiy.
November 5, 2011 is "Day of the Dead"- Group show @Young Blood Gallery.
November 11, 2011 is Wholly Georgia: A Look at the Effects on Southern Religious Culture @Mint Gallery.

p.s. can you guys "like" my facebook artist page?

I am on my way to Las Vegas tonight for one of my best friends weddings at the Little White Chapel. With that, getting sick, and my boyfriend being hospitalized for 4 days I am going to have to play some MAJOR catch up when I get home and kick it into high gear because I have been dragging ass this month. Which, was not part of my original plan.

VIVA LAS VEGAS!!!

Open Call to Artists!

This is a show I am curating at Radial Cafe in Atlanta at the end of this month! Everyone check it out!!!!

Time:
Sunday, October 23 at 6:00pm - November 20 at 9:30pm

Location:
Radial Cafe

Atlanta, GA
Info:
This is an open call for artists at Radial Cafe in Atlanta
Curated by Dayna Melton and Jackson Henry.

You can submit up to two pieces of art relating to the "mask" theme (which in all honesty is VERY OPEN TO INTERPRETATION, so do that voodoo that you do)

Radial Café is hosting an art exhibition for KSU students along with other artists. Masks are typically worn for protection, disguise, performance, or entertainment. They have been used since antiquity for both ceremonial and practical purposes. We are looking for any art relating to masks. It can be interpreted anyway you’d like. Be creative! Drawing, painting, photography, and print will all be accepted.

There are a few small spaces for the exhibition of 3D artworks in the café. So, if you intend to submit 3D artworks please contact Dayna Melton at Dayna_mite@hotmail.com

Submissions:
Artists may submit a maximum of (2) artworks no larger than 4’x4’. The maximum price for all works: $300.00. Artists will retain 100% of all profits from any sales of their works.
Artworks must be delivered to the Painting Studio, (Visual Arts Bldg. Rm. 112) on Friday, Oct. 21, 10:00 – 3:00. We will install the show at Radial Café on Sunday, October 23rd. If you are an Atlanta artist you can email me for a drop off date at Radial Café on a designated alternate date. All artworks must be READY TO HANG when dropped off. If your artwork is unframed it must at least be matted and have clips for easy hanging since we will be hanging artworks from wires suspended from the ceiling. We are not allowed to drill holes in the walls for pictures.

All artworks must have a taped piece of paper on the back containing the following info:
Artist:
Title:
